Abstract
The objective of this research work is to make known that when talking about the modern age, one cannot fail to mention the Catholic Monarchs, since, after their ascension to the thrones of Castile and Aragon, they carried out a series of reforms, leading Spain to one of its most successful times in its history. Before assuming the respective crowns, their kingdoms were in constant instability and chaos after the civil and dynastic wars that their predecessors had left behind. This, added to the fact that there was a weakening of the power of the crown, since this power had been withdrawn by the nobles, who had the last word in the decisions made in the reign, meant that there was total corruption in the respective kingdoms. , causing citizens to not respect authority and a lot of crimes to be committed. This monographic work entitled “Description of the main activities of the Catholic Monarchs” aims to reveal how the Catholic Monarchs acted before and during their reign, their triumphs and defeats, their strategic decisions, their reforms, pacification and their expansionist policy. For this purpose, this work was divided into 6 chapters. In each of them they will talk about the activities carried out in all areas of their monarchy. Starting first with the biographical features of the Kings and their eventful ascension to the throne of Isabel, unleashing a war of succession to the throne of Castile always supported by Ferdinand. Then the administrative and political reforms that they carried out to reorganize the reign of Castile and their external policy oriented towards alliances and exploration of new territories will be mentioned. Subsequently, the economic reforms they proposed to get out of the crisis that they had inherited from their predecessors will be studied. Continuing, we will touch on the field of military activities undertaken by the Catholic Monarchs, being the area in which they obtained the most victories. And finally, the religious sphere of Ferdinand and Isabella will be known, since one of the factors of their successful reign was due to religious unification, for which Pope Alexander VI gave them the famous title of Catholic Monarchs for their ardent work to consolidate the Catholic religion in Spain. The Catholic Monarchs laid the foundations for the modern state in Spain and Europe, they were an inspiration for future Kings and generations who admire how they unified and managed to make the Crowns of Castile and Aragon one of the most brilliant reigns in universal history.
