Abstract

The objective of this research work is to make known the vision of Juan Bustamante, detailing with more clarity the complex vision of change and continuity in the correlations between the indigenous people and the government in Peru in the mid-nineteenth century. His thoughts would be felt to be copies of the abstract liberalism of the 1820s, with its persistence on equality before the law. But Bustamante's character in insisting on the exploitation of the indigenous in the face of educated public opinion, his character in organizing and arming the indigenous to fight for his purposes while he pursued his own partisan political interest. They were antecedents of the events that would arrive in the 20th century. And the crucial factor was used for activism, that the peasant of the highlands had been separated from their historical corporate integration to the colonial State. The different vision of the indigenous and the resistance of the peasants: the debates could happen because the very identity of the indigenous had occurred in a fluid, unstatic and changing conception. Being perhaps that or the progress of the constellations and the society of power in Peru in 1860 had begun to show reactions from different groups within the indigenous people of the mountains, which showed all these possibilities. That reflected the broader trend of Peruvian politics and society. We found in the Ancash rebellion the potential actions of interethnic alliances between indigenous people, Creoles and mestizos and, at the same time, the limitations that the real context of society opposed for their achievement. Several circumstantial and structural factors generated: discontent in the regional inhabitants, formulations of alternative popular national political projects and military articulations of heterogeneous troops.
